Health & Safety Policy

Introduction

This Health & Safety Policy outlines the commitment of Straight Up Dance & Theatre School (SUDTS) to ensuring the health, safety, and welfare of all our staff, students, and visitors. As SUDTS does not operate from a fixed location, this policy applies to all venues where SUDTS classes, workshops, and events are held.

Policy Statement: SUDTS is dedicated to maintaining and promoting a safe and healthy environment at all locations where our activities take place. We aim to provide clear guidance and procedures to manage health and safety risks effectively.

Health & Safety Responsibilities:

  • Follow and enforce the health and safety procedures set by SUDTS at all locations.
  • Ensure that all equipment used during classes is in good condition and safe for use.
  • Maintain an Accident Book to record any incidents, accidents, or near misses, and take appropriate actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Be familiar with the emergency procedures specific to each location, including fire exits, assembly points, and the location of first aid facilities.
  • Report any health and safety concerns or hazards to the management promptly.

Student and Visitor Responsibilities:

Health & Safety Procedures:

First Aid:

  • A First Aid kit will be available at all venues where SUDTS operates. The location of the First Aid kit will be communicated to all staff and students at the beginning of each session.
  • In the event of an accident or injury, the nearest trained First Aider should be notified immediately.
  • Any accidents or injuries must be recorded in the Accident Book, which will be maintained by the instructor or responsible staff member.

Emergency Procedures:

  • All staff and instructors must be aware of the emergency procedures specific to each venue, including fire evacuation routes and assembly points.
  • In case of an emergency, staff are responsible for ensuring the safe evacuation of all students and visitors from the venue.

Equipment Safety:

  • All equipment used during SUDTS activities must be regularly inspected and maintained to ensure it is safe to use.
  • Any faulty or damaged equipment must be removed from use immediately and reported to SUDTS management.

Venue Safety:

  • Before each session, the instructor or staff member must conduct a safety check of the venue to identify and mitigate any hazards.
  • SUDTS will ensure that all venues comply with relevant health and safety regulations, including adequate lighting, ventilation, and sanitation facilities.

Risk Assessments:

  • Risk assessments will be conducted for all activities and venues to identify potential hazards and implement control measures.
  • These assessments will be reviewed regularly and updated as necessary to reflect any changes in activities or venues.

Monitoring and Review: This Health & Safety Policy will be reviewed annually or more frequently if significant changes occur in activities, venues, or legal requirements. The policy will be updated as necessary to ensure continued compliance with UK law and the safety of all individuals involved with SUDTS.
